The City of Mississauga garbage collection schedule is not one citywide date. Use Peel Region’s collection calendar for your exact address. For most eligible curbside homes, garbage is collected every other week and organics every week. Recycling remains on its existing collection schedule but is now managed separately by Circular Materials, with GFL handling Mississauga recycling questions and missed pickups.
Peel’s waste calendar is still the starting point for garbage, organics, yard waste and special dates. For a blue-cart schedule, missed recycling, extra recycling container or sorting question, use Circular Materials or GFL. Do not send a recycling-only problem through Peel’s garbage report.

A couch, six extra bags, a move-out pile and renovation debris are four different disposal problems. Mississauga residents should not treat them as one “large garbage pickup.”
Free bulky-item pickup
Peel collects accepted bulky items free on the regular garbage day. Examples include furniture, mattresses and barbecues with the propane tank removed.
Buy garbage tags
Every accepted extra garbage bag needs one Peel tag unless it is an official exemption day or a pre-arranged moving-out collection.
Unlimited acceptable garbage
On the address-specific exemption date, residents can place unlimited acceptable garbage at the curb without tags. Preparation and safety rules still apply.
Do not create an unapproved pile

Paper, boxboard, cartons and accepted paper-laminate packaging belong in recycling when prepared according to the current item instructions.
Plastic and foam
Accepted categories include plastic containers, flexible plastic packaging and foam packaging. Items should be empty and free from food residue.
Metal
Accepted metal packaging and containers can be recycled when emptied and prepared according to the current Mississauga material list.
Glass containers
Accepted glass bottles and jars belong in the recycling cart. Alcoholic beverage containers may follow a separate return route.

Current service levels provide weekly yard-waste collection in spring and fall and biweekly collection in summer. Check the exact address date before preparing bags or branches.
Mid-March through June
Current Mississauga yard-waste service is weekly during the spring period, subject to the live calendar.
July through September
Current service changes to biweekly collection. Do not set out yard waste every summer week.
October through mid-December

Use kraft brown yard-waste bags or a compliant rigid container clearly labelled “yard waste.” Wet or overloaded paper bags may tear and become unsafe to collect.

Keep within collection size
Individual limbs and branches must be shorter than 1.2 m and narrower than 10 cm. Larger branches belong at an appropriate CRC or require professional disposal.
Tie loose brush with string or twine
Bundles must be shorter than 1.2 m, narrower than 76 cm in diameter and lighter than 20 kg.
A separate vehicle can collect yard waste as late as 8 p.m. Do not report it missed simply because garbage, organics or recycling has already been collected.
City vacuum leaf pickup is a separate service
Some established Mississauga streets with mature trees receive the City’s seasonal vacuum leaf pickup. This is different from Peel’s kraft-bag yard-waste programme. Only rake leaves to the road when the property is on the City’s eligible street list and the collection window applies.

Food scraps
Accepted organics include fruit and vegetable waste, dairy, eggshells, baked goods, grains, coffee grounds, meat, fish and bones.
Food-soiled paper
Peel’s accepted organics examples include facial tissue, paper towels, toilet-paper rolls and paper grocery or takeout bags.
Remove packaging
Do not place packaged food directly into the green bin. Remove plastic, glass, metal and other non-organic packaging first.
The green-bin lid should be closed and the lock placed vertically so the collection mechanism can empty it. Organics is usually collected weekly for eligible curbside homes.

Mississauga Waste Collection Will Change in October 2027
Starting October 1, 2027, the City of Mississauga is scheduled to take over local garbage, organics and yard-waste collection from Peel Region. Do not apply those future rules to a 2026 collection.
Peel remains responsible
Peel currently provides garbage, organics and yard-waste service using a four-day Monday-to-Thursday residential schedule.
Five-day City routes
Mississauga plans a Monday-to-Friday residential collection schedule. Some households may receive a different collection day.
Different responsibilities continue
Future yard-waste service is planned as biweekly for the full season. Circular Materials will continue handling residential recycling, while Peel will continue operating CRCs.
For a 2026 or early-2027 pickup, continue using Peel’s live address calendar and Circular Materials’ recycling information. The City says it will notify affected residents before the October 2027 transition.
