Why Was My Norfolk County Waste Left Behind?
Current Norfolk County Garbage Rules Before September 28
- Maximum four bags per household.
- Maximum 18 kg or 40 lb per bag or container.
- All garbage must be bagged.
- Loose garbage inside a can is not collected.
- Place material on grass or driveway at the curb edge.
- Keep basketball nets and other obstacles away.
- Make waste visible during snow conditions.
- Current limit is eight bags per commercial unit.
- The 18 kg limit applies to each bag or container.
- Commercial properties must register for the new cart programme.
- Industrial, commercial and institutional recycling eligibility changed in January 2026.
Liquid waste is not ordinary curbside garbage.
Leaves and grass use yard or transfer-station routes.

New Weekly Norfolk County Green Cart Programme
Beginning September 28, every property receiving Norfolk County waste collection is assigned a green cart and an indoor kitchen container.

Use newspaper or certified compostable bags displaying a BPI or BNQ logo. The small kitchen container stays indoors; empty it into the green cart.
Norfolk County says the organics cart includes a gravity lock. Follow the County’s operating instructions when carts are delivered.
Norfolk County Yard Waste Zones and 2026 Dates
Curbside yard collection is for listed urban areas. Residents outside Zones 1–3 can take qualifying yard material to Norfolk transfer stations for free composting; brush charges may apply.
