Orillia Recycling Schedule 2026: What Changed on July 2
Every other week
Residential recycling changed from weekly to every-other-week collection.
Your day did not change
The normal weekday remains the same, but each property is assigned Week A or Week B.
Single-stream recycling
Accepted paper, cardboard, metal, plastic and glass packaging go loose in the same wheeled cart.
Leave the cart when moving
The recycling cart stays with the property. Contact Emterra if the new residence has no cart.

- Flattened cardboard no larger than about 60 cm by 60 cm
- Cartons, paper cups and paper-laminate packaging
- Plastic bottles, jars, tubs, trays and black plastic packaging

- Accepted foam packaging
Do not place these in recycling
- Food or liquid

Clean, dry, empty and loose. Flatten cardboard and keep the cart lid fully closed.
How to Place the Recycling Cart at the Curb
Automated collection needs the cart facing the correct direction with enough clearance for the truck arm.
Wheels face home
The cart wheels should be away from the curb, toward the house.
Lid opens to street
Position the cart so the lid opening faces the roadway.
Keep 3 feet clear
Leave clearance from vehicles, fences, poles, other carts and obstacles.
Use a flat surface
Keep the cart visible, accessible and clear of snow and ice.
Do not place the cart on top of or behind a snowbank. Clear a stable area at the end of the driveway and remove snow or ice from the lid.
Orillia Clear Garbage Bags and Pink Tag Rules
- Use a clear garbage bag.
- Up to two small opaque privacy bags may be placed inside.
- Maximum bag size is about 95 cm by 80 cm.
- Maximum weight is 20 kg per bag or container.
- More than 10% recyclable or organic material can cause rejection.
- Wrap broken glass or place it in a rigid container.
- Use one full pink tag for each eligible garbage unit.
- Wrap the tag around the tied top of a standalone bag to form a flag.
- For loose waste in a can, put the tag on the top item inside.
- Do not place the tag on the can lid.
- Clear bags containing diapers do not require a tag.

Yard-waste containers
Use paper bags, certified compostable bags or rigid containers with a free yard-waste label.
Branch limits
Branches must be no more than 1 metre long and no more than 2.5 cm thick. Keep bundles about 50 cm wide and tall.
Grass requires a tag
Normal yard waste does not need a garbage tag, but bags or containers of grass clippings do.
No plastic bags, sod, soil, dirt or winter sand. Do not rake loose leaves into a ditch or boulevard.

Curbside batteries
Place eligible household batteries in a sealed clear bag on the ground in front of the green bin.
Natural Christmas trees
Collection occurs during the first three full weeks after Christmas. Remove lights, decorations, tinsel and stands.
Annual textile collection
Place clean, dry textiles in clear bags within the 20 kg limit on the officially assigned date.
Treasure Hunt
Selected third weekends allow residents to offer reusable items. Remove anything not taken by the stated Sunday deadline.
Sofas and bulky furniture
Orillia does not offer regular bulky-item pickup. Use donation, reuse, Treasure Hunt, private removal or a permitted drop-off option.

Apartment or condominium
Ask the building manager whether collection is municipal, shared-cart or privately contracted before using curbside dates.
Business or mixed-use property
Businesses must register for the separate City business-recycling service. Residential units on mixed-use properties follow Circular Materials.
Outside Orillia City limits
A mailing address may say Orillia while the property follows Severn, Ramara, Oro-Medonte or another collection authority.
