Innisfil Garbage Collection Schedule: Quick Answer

Regular curbside garbage and organics are County of Simcoe services rather than a separate Town of Innisfil collection programme. Residential recycling moved to Ontario’s producer-led system in 2026, with Emterra collecting on behalf of Circular Materials.

Every week

🟒 Organics

Collected every week all year. Remove plastic packaging and use accepted paper or certified compostable liners.

Every second week

⚫ Garbage

Collected on the property’s Zone 1 or Zone 2 garbage week. Confirm the address before set-out.

Opposite week

πŸ”΅ Recycling

Uses the existing scheduled collection day but runs opposite the garbage week. Pickup time may differ from organics.

Designated weeks

πŸ‚ Yard waste

Place it out by Monday at 7 a.m. during the scheduled week. The truck can arrive on any day that week.

One address, separate trucks

Recycling and organics are now collected by different contractors. One cart may be emptied several hours before the other without either service being missed.

Innisfil Garbage Pickup: What Goes in Each Cart?

Garbage

⚫ Common garbage items

  • Diapers and wipes.
  • Coffee pods and disks.
  • Dryer sheets.
  • Cotton swabs and dental floss.
  • Bandages and gauze.
  • Broken ceramics, boxed and sealed.
  • Window glass, boxed and sealed.
  • Non-reusable footwear.
Organics

🟒 Weekly organics

  • Meat, fish and bones.
  • Fruit and vegetable scraps.
  • Eggs and eggshells.
  • Tea bags, grounds and filters.
  • Grease and fat.
  • Food-soiled paper.
  • Household pet feces in an accepted compostable bag.
  • Kitty litter without a plastic liner.
Recycling

πŸ”΅ Check current packaging rules

Ontario’s producer-led system expanded and standardized accepted packaging in 2026. Keep accepted materials empty and loose.

Use Circular Materials or the official Waste Wizard for a specific package rather than assuming every plastic, metal or glass object is recyclable.

Remove food from packaging

Food belongs in organics, but its plastic tray, pouch, wrapper or liner may require recycling, depot drop-off or garbage. Separate the contents first.

Innisfil Cart Set-Out and Winter Rules

Pickup-ready

βœ… Follow the Rule of 2

  • Set scheduled material out by 7:00 a.m.
  • Use a flat and level surface.
  • Keep carts within 8 feet of the travelled road.
  • Leave 2 feet between carts.
  • Leave 2 feet from vehicles, mailboxes and other objects.
  • Point lid arrows toward the street.
  • Point cart handles toward the house.
  • Fill loosely and close the lid completely.
Common rejection

⚠️ Avoid these mistakes

  • Putting carts out after 7:00 a.m.
  • Placing carts on or behind a snowbank.
  • Overfilling or packing material tightly.
  • Holding the lid shut with a bungee cord.
  • Facing arrows toward the house.
  • Blocking carts with a parked vehicle.
  • Putting tagged bags on top of a cart.
  • Assuming a private road automatically receives service.
Winter cart pad

Clear a level space at the end of the driveway while keeping carts off the travelled road. The automated arm must reach the cart without crossing a snowbank.

Lake wind and wildlife

Keep cart lids closed, store food waste securely until collection morning and return carts promptly after pickup. Loose waste can enter ditches, creeks and Lake Simcoe.

Extra Garbage Bags and Innisfil Garbage Tags

Garbage that does not fit inside the cart with the lid closed must use the County’s tagged-bag process.

Price

$4 per tag

Tags are sold in sheets of five at participating County retailers.

Limit

Maximum five bags

Up to five properly tagged bags can be placed out on the property’s garbage day.

Bag size

Maximum 20 kg

Use a standard bag no larger than approximately 90 cm by 75 cm.

Placement

Two feet away

Place tagged bags two feet from carts and other objects, never on top of a cart.

Using an old garbage can

An old can can hold one properly tagged and tied garbage bag. The crew collects the tagged bag, not a loose can of waste.

Find current garbage-tag retailers

Missed Innisfil Garbage, Organics or Recycling Pickup

Identify the missed stream before contacting anyone. Recycling and garbage/organics now have different service providers.

Self-check first

Was the material collection-ready?

  • Correct address-based date.
  • Correct garbage or recycling week.
  • Everything out before 7:00 a.m.
  • Carts on level ground within 8 feet of the road.
  • Two-foot clearance available.
  • Lids closed without bungees.
  • No snowbank, vehicle or mailbox obstruction.
  • Separate contractor still not working nearby.
Use the correct contact

Report by collection stream

Garbage or organics: Service Simcoe at 1-800-263-3199 or service@simcoe.ca.

Residential recycling: Emterra at 1-888-597-1541 or customercareont@emterra.ca.

Include the complete address, collection date, cart type and set-out time.

Useful missed-pickup message:
β€œMy address is [full address]. My [garbage/organics/recycling] cart was scheduled for [date]. It was out before 7 a.m., properly spaced with the lid closed, and remains uncollected. Is the route delayed, or should a service ticket be opened?”

2026 Holiday Collection: Check the Cart and the Facility Separately

A County waste facility can be closed while curbside collection still occurs. Do not automatically move every holiday pickup one day later.

Confirmed delay

New Year’s Day

The 2026 County calendar moved Thursday, January 1 collection to Friday, January 2.

Collection can continue

Facility closed, carts collected

The calendar lists normal curbside collection on several holidays even when County waste drop-off sites are closed.

Recycling holiday rule

Follow Emterra notices

Residential recycling is now a separate programme. Check Circular Materials or Emterra notices for recycling-specific Christmas and New Year changes.

Best holiday rule

Open the personalized address schedule before moving carts. Then separately check whether the chosen County waste facility is open.

Yard Waste, Christmas Trees and Battery Collection

Leaf and yard waste

Yard waste is collected during designated biweekly weeks. Place it out by Monday at 7:00 a.m. and leave it curbside because collection can occur on any day that week.

Containers

Paper, box or open-top bin

Use kraft paper yard bags, cardboard boxes or open-ended rigid containers.

Brush bundles

Natural twine only

Maximum 2 m long and 30 cm in diameter. Individual branches should not exceed 7 cm in diameter.

Do not use green cart

Yard waste stays separate

The County directs residents not to place leaf and yard waste in the weekly organics cart.

Christmas trees

  • Set the tree out by Monday at 7:00 a.m. during the designated garbage collection week.
  • Remove the plastic tree bag, stand, lights, decorations and tinsel.
  • Maximum length is 2 m; cut longer trees into sections.
  • Place the tree at the end of a cleared driveway, not on the road or a snowbank.

Battery collection

The 2026 calendar schedules curbside battery collection for November 2–5. Place accepted household batteries in the County bag or a sealed clear bag on top of the closed organics cart by 7:00 a.m.

Battery fire prevention

Tape the terminals of 9-volt and button batteries. Rechargeable tool batteries, laptop batteries and vehicle batteries belong at an approved hazardous-waste or stewardship drop-off.

Does County Collection Apply to Your Innisfil Property?

Typical service

Municipal-road house

Use the County address schedule and standard automated-cart rules.

Check access

Private road

Not every private road meets the County’s collection-access requirements.

Seasonal property

Cottage or shoreline home

Confirm the route or common collection point before leaving waste roadside.

Management-led service

Condo or multi-unit property

Ask property management whether the development uses County curbside carts or private collection.

Garbage storage box versus collection cart

A secure storage box can protect waste between visits, but crews empty assigned collection carts or approved common collection pointsβ€”not a private roadside box.

Leaving before collection day?

Take the waste to an approved County facility or back to the property where it can be legally stored. Do not leave carts or bags at the road for several days.
