Quick Answer: How to Find Your Kelowna Garbage Pickup Schedule
Garbage is collected every week from eligible RDCO curbside homes. Yard waste is collected every other week from March through December. Recycling is also biweekly, but since May 1, 2026 its exact dates and service support are provided separately by Recycle BC.

How to Read the RDCO Week A and Week B Map
Week A and Week B are permanent geographic yard-waste zones. They are not the first and second week of the month. Each weekday uses a lighter shade for A and a darker shade for B.

The current RDCO map is useful for garbage and yard waste. Recycle BC’s address-based schedule is the final source for residential recycling dates after the May 2026 service transition.
Kelowna Garbage and Recycling Schedule: Who Collects Each Stream?
One address can involve three organizations. Knowing the stream prevents calls from being transferred or sent to the wrong contractor.
Recycle BC became directly responsible for Central Okanagan residential recycling. The new system added a pink box for flexible plastics and a grey box for non-deposit glass bottles and jars.
Does Your Property Use the RDCO Curbside Schedule?
Single-family dwelling
Eligible homes in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Peachland, Lake Country and participating RDCO areas use the regional curbside system.
Apartment or condominium
Multi-unit buildings generally use a private hauler. Ask the manager or strata for the collection room, contractor and bulky-item rules.
Westbank First Nation
WFN Reserves 9 and 10 do not use the standard RDCO residential curbside programme.
Big White
Big White is served by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary and uses an attended transfer station.
This area is also outside RDCO’s standard residential curbside service. Confirm collection directly with the applicable community authority.
Kelowna Cart Set-Out Rules That Prevent Missed Pickup
Complete these checks
- Place carts and boxes out before 7 a.m.
- Set carts out on collection morning rather than overnight.
- Place cart wheels against the curb or road edge.
- Leave at least 1 metre or 3 feet around carts.
- Keep carts clear of vehicles, poles, mailboxes and snowbanks.
- Keep lids completely closed.
- Place all material inside the correct cart or box.
- Keep sidewalks and bike lanes open.
Avoid these mistakes
- Setting carts out after the truck has passed.
- Leaving loose bags or branches beside a cart.
- Overfilling a cart so the lid remains open.
- Placing containers too close together.
- Using the wrong A/B yard-waste week.

- Parking a vehicle in front of the set-out.
Store garbage in a secure garage, shed or wildlife-resistant location. Freeze high-odour waste when practical and move the cart outside shortly before the 7 a.m. deadline.
Kelowna Garbage Pickup: Weekly Cart and Tag-a-Bag Rules
The black-lidded cart is collected weekly. Use it for ordinary household garbage that cannot go into recycling, yard waste or a stewardship programme.
One garbage cart weekly
Keep all regular waste inside the cart and close the lid. Material beside the cart is not automatically included.
Up to two tagged bags
Place no more than two extra bags beside the cart, with one current Tag-a-Bag sticker attached visibly to each bag.
$2.50 per sticker
Confirm the live fee before purchase because regional and municipal charges can change.

Kelowna Yard-Waste Schedule and Cart Rules
The green-lidded yard-waste cart is collected every other week from March through December. Use the A/B marker in the RDCO calendar; do not bag the material.
Place these inside the cart
- Grass clippings and leaves.
- Plant trimmings and weeds.
- Fruit droppings and pumpkins.
- Pine needles and cones.
- Small amounts of bark mulch.
- Branches and prunings up to 5 cm or 2 inches thick.
- Branches shorter than 1 metre or 3 feet.
Keep these out
- Plastic, paper or compostable bags.
- Kitchen food scraps.
- Animal waste or cat litter.
- Dirt, sod, rocks or stumps.
- Construction or renovation material.
- Flower pots, landscape fabric or edging.
- Sand, gravel or street sweepings.
- Tissue and paper towel.
Wet leaves and tightly packed material can freeze or wedge inside the cart. Keep material loose and confirm that the lid opens freely before collection.
When one yard cart is not enough
Kelowna Recycling Schedule: Blue Cart, Pink Box and Grey Box
Residential recycling is collected every other week through Recycle BC. Enter the address in its Central Okanagan schedule because recycling dates should not be inferred from the current RDCO yard-waste PDF.
Paper and accepted containers
Use the blue-lidded cart for accepted paper, cardboard, cartons, plastic containers and metal packaging. Empty and rinse containers.
Flexible plastics
Bundle accepted flexible plastic packaging inside a reused clear plastic bag, then place the bundle in the pink box.
Non-deposit glass
Use the grey box for accepted non-deposit glass bottles and jars. Return deposit beverage containers through a Return-It depot.

West Kelowna Garbage Pickup Schedule Today or Tomorrow
West Kelowna uses the same RDCO weekday and Week A/B garbage and yard-waste system. Residential recycling dates are also confirmed separately through Recycle BC.

The residential transfer station at 2640 Asquith Road accepts selected garbage, yard waste, recycling, metal and appliances.
Heavy snow, ice or inaccessible roads can delay service. Keep safely positioned carts available and check regional or municipal notices rather than repeatedly moving them into the roadway.
Big White Garbage and Recycling: A Different Regional System
Big White does not use Kelowna’s RDCO curbside calendar. It is in the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary and relies on the attended Big White Transfer Station.
