North Bay Garbage Disposal: Choose the Correct Destination
The “North Bay city dump” and the Waste Diversion Facility are different places.
Weekly curbside garbage
Use for normal household garbage within the two-bag/container limit.
- Confirm your zone weekday.
- Set out by 7 a.m.
- Maximum 15 kg per item.
- Use $2 tags for eligible extras.
Waste Diversion Facility
Use the Station Road entrance for hazardous waste, electronics, public recycling, scrap metal and seasonal leaf/yard waste.
- Wednesday–Saturday.
- 8 a.m.–6 p.m.
- Most residential drop-offs are free.
- Brush is not accepted here.
Merrick Landfill
Use for larger garbage loads, mattresses, brush, refrigerant appliances and landfill-only material.
- Credit or debit only.
- Sort the load first.
- Fees depend on the load.
- Sunday opening is seasonal.
Do not take household hazardous waste, electronics or corrugated cardboard to Merrick as landfill garbage. Do not take brush or refrigerant appliances to the Waste Diversion Facility.

Waste Diversion Facility: What You Can Drop Off
Use 112 Patton Street, entrance off Station Road. Staff may apply limits or refuse unsafe material.
Household hazardous waste
Paint, household batteries, oil, adhesives, aerosols, fuel, lightbulbs and household cleaners.
Limit: 60 litres per household per week.
Public recycling
Accepted household recyclables can be dropped off free when the curbside cart is full.
Electronics
Computers, televisions, radios, speakers, phones and many household electronics. Refrigerant items are excluded.
Scrap metal
Bicycles, filing cabinets, pots, pans, patio furniture and BBQs. You must lift items into the bin.
Leaf and yard waste
Flower clippings, grass, leaves and sod are accepted free. Brush and plastic bags are not accepted.
Paint reuse
Residents may take usable leftover paint free, depending on availability.

North Bay Curbside Rules: Remember 7–6–2–15–150
Do this
- Check zone and holiday status.
- Keep each item under 15 kg.
- Use a container no larger than 150 L.
- Keep material visible and accessible.
- Take oversized loads to Merrick.
Avoid this
- More than two untagged items.
- Overweight or oversized containers.
- Late set-out.
- Material hidden behind snow or vehicles.
- Electronics, hazardous waste or another diverted item in garbage.
Tags cost $2 at the City Hall Customer Service Centre. A household may place up to four additional tagged bags. Attach the tag above the knot with the full tag visible; for a can, place it on the top bag inside.
North Bay Recycling Cart Rules from June 1, 2026
North Bay moved from open Blue Boxes to wheeled carts. Recycling remains every second week.
360-litre cart
Most households received a standard wheeled, lidded cart. Residents who pre-ordered the smaller option received a 240-litre cart.
Accepted material goes together
Place recycling clean, dry and loose in the cart. Keep the lid fully closed.
Wheels toward the home
Lid opening faces the street. Keep the cart on a flat surface with at least 3 feet of clearance.

Winter Set-Out in North Bay
Use a cleared, level area
- Keep bags and carts off the roadway.
- Leave about one metre around material.
