Sudbury Garbage Dump: Hours, Live Camera, Fees and Collection Schedule
Start with Waste Wise for an address-specific pickup date or the official Kingsway landfill camera before a dump run. Greater Sudbury operates landfills in Sudbury, Hanmer and Azilda plus the Walden Small Vehicle Transfer Site. This guide explains seasonal hours, the $5 gate fee, 2026 tipping rates, free diversion streams, holiday changes, bag tags, Blue Box contacts, hazardous waste and missed collection.
Quick Answer: Curbside Collection or a Sudbury Rubbish Dump?
Use curbside service for normal scheduled garbage, Green Cart organics, residential Blue Box recycling and leaf or yard trimmings. Use a landfill, transfer site or special collection programme for extra loads, construction debris, hazardous products, appliances, electronics and bulky waste.
Normal household waste
Search your address in Waste Wise. Garbage is generally every other week; Green Cart and residential Blue Box collection are weekly.
More than two garbage items
Attach a tag to every extra approved bag, container or bundle, or self-haul the excess to a disposal site.
Furniture or appliance
Request roadside collection through Waste Wise before placing an eligible bulky item outside.
Paint, fuel or chemicals
Use the Household Hazardous Waste Depot or book the free Toxic Taxi. Never hide hazardous products in garbage.
Greater Sudbury has three landfill sites and one small-vehicle transfer site. Confirm the facility, hours and material route before loading your vehicle.

- Saturday year-round: 8 a.m.β5 p.m.

Arrival before the closing minute does not guarantee enough time to cross the scale, receive instructions and unload a complicated load.
Sudbury City Dump Camera: Check the Kingsway Line
Greater Sudburyβs livestream helps residents view traffic at the Sudbury Landfill before leaving home.
Estimating the vehicle queue
Look for vehicles near the entrance and scale before choosing when to make the trip.
Camera does not replace hours
A visible feed does not prove that the site is open, the scale is operating or your material is accepted.
Kingsway location only
The official camera does not show traffic at Hanmer, Azilda or Walden.
Sudbury Garbage Dump Fees and the $5 Gate Fee
Every vehicle load normally pays a $5 gate fee plus any applicable tipping charge. Sorting is important because mixed recyclable material can cost two or three times more than separated garbage.
Blue Box materials, appliances, electronics, metal, yard waste and organics may have no tipping fee when visibly separated. Mixed into garbage, they can trigger a higher rate.
Residential separated-garbage cost helper
- The normal $5 vehicle gate fee is included.
- The first 50 kg per week may be exempt for an eligible resident.
- A 50β100 kg eligible weekly load uses the Cityβs $4.25 flat tipping charge after the exemption.
- Loads over 100 kg use the applicable per-tonne rate after the first 50 kg.
- The resident must deliver household waste in a private motor vehicle.
Where Can Sudbury Residents Dispose of Waste for Free?
Ordinary unsorted garbage is not generally free. Some separated diversion streams have no tipping fee, although the $5 vehicle gate fee normally still applies at a landfill or transfer site.
Landfill diversion streams
- Blue Box recyclables.
- Green Cart food scraps and accepted paper.
- Scrap metal.
- Electronics.
- Appliances, including microwaves.
- Reusable clothing and household textiles.
- Leaves, grass, twigs, branches and natural trees.
- Sod without soil or rocks.
- Tires with or without rims.
Use another programme first
- Use regular curbside collection.
- Book unlimited eligible bulky-item requests.
- Use the Frobisher recycling depot.
- Use producer drop-offs for electronics, tires and bulbs.
- Return medication and sharps to an approved pharmacy route.
- Donate or sell reusable goods.
- Book free Toxic Taxi collection.
The published 2026 event ran May 11β16. Do not assume another free week applies unless the City announces it on the current-year landfill page.

Sudbury Garbage Collection Holiday Schedule 2026

For example, some holidays leave curbside collection unchanged while landfill sites close. Check both the pickup and facility columns before acting.
Sudbury Garbage Bag Tags: Price, Placement and PDF Rules
The regular limit is two approved garbage items per household unit every other week. Every additional bag, container or bundle requires one properly displayed tag.
$15 for five tags
Buy online, at Citizen Service Centres, library branches or participating retailers. Phone a retailer first because stock varies.
Attach around the neck
Tie the bag first, then secure the tag around its neck. Do not use the tag as the twist tie.
Tag the top bag
Do not attach a tag to the can. Place one clearly visible tag on the top bag inside the container.
Attach to the twine
Tie the material securely and attach one full visible tag to the string or twine.
Approved sizes from the official bag-tag PDF
Torn tags, hidden tags, tags attached to a can, tags used as ties and tags placed on an unapproved or overweight item can result in non-collection.
Extra-Waste Support for Diapers, Medical Needs and Pet Waste
Residents who regularly exceed the two-item garbage limit may qualify for a City support programme instead of continually buying ordinary tags.
Diaper-waste exemption
- Apply before placing extra clear diaper bags outside.
- Choose two clear bags per registered child every other week, or one clear bag every week.
- Each bag must contain diaper waste only and remain under 18 kg.
- Allow at least two weeks for processing.
- Renew annually until the child turns four.
Up to 104 special tags
- For unrecyclable, non-hazardous and non-pathological medical waste.
- An initial health-care-professional form is required.
- Approved residents may choose every-other-week or weekly tagged collection.
- The extra week is not shown in Waste Wise.
- Allow at least two weeks and reapply annually.
Exemption and digester options
- Pet-waste exemption applications are available.
- Cat-litter bags can use ordinary garbage tags when prepared correctly.
- A dog-waste-digester rebate of up to $50 per household is listed.
- Advise the landfill attendant when delivering full pet-waste bags.
- Residents may request a waste-sorting home visit from a City expert.
The support programmes require eligible households to use available Blue Box, Green Cart and leaf or yard collection. Hazardous or pathological medical waste remains excluded.
