How to Read the West Kelowna Week A and Week B Map
Map colour and shade answer different questions. Record both before reading the date calendar.
Use the exact road position around Glenrosa, Shannon Lake, Boucherie, Westlake, Westbank and Stevens Road. Neighbourhood names alone are not precise enough near route borders.
Which Official App or Website Should You Use?
Residents now need different tools for different tasks. Saving the wrong app can create a correct reminder for the wrong stream.
West Kelowna Cart and Recycling-Box Placement
A correct schedule can still result in a missed cart when the automated truck cannot reach, grip or empty it safely.
Cart placement checklist
- Make scheduled containers accessible by 7 a.m.
- Leave about one metre between carts, boxes and obstacles.
- Point the cart-lid arrow toward the road.
- Place wheels against the curb or shoulder.
- Keep lids fully closed.
- Do not block sidewalks, cycle lanes, driveways or snow-clearing routes.
Blue cart and box order
- Place the grey glass box on the pink flexible-plastics box.
- Put the stacked boxes to the right of the blue cart when viewed from the street.
- Place the black garbage cart on the opposite side.
- Leave about one metre between each grouping.
- Bundle flexible plastics in a reused clear bread or produce bag.
Remove overflow
The automated truck may not lift a cart whose lid cannot close.
Create a stable set-out point
Keep carts off snowbanks and clear snow or ice from the lid and surrounding area.
Use collection morning
RDCO advises setting carts out on collection day rather than leaving attractants outside overnight.
West Kelowna Garbage Collection: Weekly Black Cart
Eligible single-family curbside homes receive weekly garbage collection on the regular weekday. All material must fit inside the black-lidded cart with the lid closed.
Black cart every route week
The A/B distinction matters mainly for alternating services; ordinary garbage remains weekly.
Maximum two tagged bags
Use one current Tag-a-Bag sticker on each eligible extra bag rather than leaving untagged overflow.
Use a separate route
Keep recyclables, yard waste, electronics, batteries, paint, oil, pesticides, propane and renovation waste out.
Non-recyclable household material
- Diapers, wipes and personal-hygiene waste.
- Animal waste prepared as directed.
- Broken dishes, ceramics and mirrors.

West Kelowna Recycling Schedule and the New Three-Container System
Recycle BC assumed responsibility for residential packaging and paper collection on May 1, 2026. Recycling remains every two weeks, but its dates, support and sorting rules are now separate from RDCO garbage and yard waste.
Paper and containers
Use it for accepted paper, cardboard, plastic containers, metal packaging, cartons and paper cups.
Flexible plastics
Bundle accepted bags, overwrap, pouches and wrappers inside a reused clear bag to prevent fly-aways.
Non-deposit glass
Use it for accepted clear and coloured glass bottles and jars. Take refundable containers to a bottle depot.
Avoid an Oops tag
- Empty and rinse containers.
- Flatten cardboard and cut oversized pieces.
- Keep loose flexible plastic out of the blue cart.
- Stack grey on pink at the curb.
- Set out every scheduled container by 7 a.m.

West Kelowna Yard-Waste Pickup Schedule
The green-lidded cart is collected every other week from March through the end of December. Match the property’s weekday and A/B colour to the current RDCO calendar.
Loose plant material
- Leaves, pine needles and cones.
- Grass clippings, weeds and plant trimmings.
- Fruit droppings and pumpkins.
- Small amounts of bark mulch.
- Branches up to 5 cm in diameter and under 1 metre long.
Material that contaminates the cart
- Plastic, paper or compostable bags.
- Food and kitchen waste.
- Animal waste or cat litter.
- Dirt, sod, rocks or stumps.
- Flower pots, edging, landscape fabric or renovation debris.
Keep material loose
Frozen or heavily compacted yard waste can remain in the cart when it is tipped.
Do not leave loose piles
Use an approved additional cart or take excess material to Asquith or another approved facility.
Ask the City
Garbage and yard-waste cart changes are handled through City of West Kelowna Utility Billing.
West Kelowna Holiday Waste Collection Schedule
Collection normally continues on statutory holidays. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day have specific replacement dates in the current RDCO calendar.
The RDCO calendar controls garbage and yard waste. Confirm a blue-cart or box date through Recycle BC because recycling has its own schedule.

Does Your Property Use the Standard West Kelowna Schedule?
The standard RDCO curbside system mainly serves eligible single-family dwellings. A West Kelowna mailing address does not automatically prove that a property uses City/RDCO carts.
Single-family dwelling
Use RDCO for garbage and yard waste, Recycle BC for recycling and the City for utility/cart changes.
Apartment, condo or strata
Ask the property manager about shared bins, private-hauler days, bulky-item rules and recycling rooms.
Westbank First Nation lands
Properties on reserve lands may use separate WFN service arrangements rather than the City/RDCO curbside calendar.
A secondary suite may share the main property’s carts. Do not order, move or replace a cart without confirming the owner’s utility account and service entitlement.
West Kelowna Cart Sizes, Tag-a-Bag and 2026 Fees
The City handles black and green cart changes. Recycle BC’s contractor handles blue carts and the pink and grey boxes.
Fees and change-out charges can be amended. Confirm the current quarterly and one-time amounts with the City before submitting a cart request.
Asquith Road Transfer Station: West Kelowna Dump Hours and Fees
The facility formerly called the Westside Residential Waste Disposal and Recycling Centre is now named Asquith Road Transfer Station. It is a residential transfer and recycling site—not an active public landfill.

The site is off Shannon Lake Road and is for residential use only.
Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Hours are 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m.; the entrance gate closes at 3:50 p.m.
Tuesday through Thursday
The site is also closed December 25 and January 1.
Sort into the correct bin
- Paper and flattened cardboard.
- Accepted containers.
- Flexible plastics.
- Glass bottles and jars.
- White and coloured foam packaging.
Use another disposal site
- Commercial or landscaping-business waste.
- Concrete, asphalt, dirt, rock and sod.
- Drywall.
- Electronics, light bulbs and small appliances.
- Used oil, hazardous waste and liquids.
The municipal landfill at this site operated from 1960 to 2010 and is permanently closed. Waste accepted at today’s transfer station is transported onward for disposal or recycling.
Bulky Items, Electronics, Foam and Hazardous Waste
West Kelowna does not have a standard weekly bulky-item curbside service. Use Asquith, Glenmore Landfill, a stewardship depot, retailer take-back or a private hauler according to the item.
Asquith or private removal
Asquith accepts eligible residential bulky garbage at its load rates. Commercial loads require another facility.
West Kelowna depots

Use an approved receiver
RDCO identifies Kelowna Recycling/The Battery Doctors for many household hazardous products.
Secure and separate the load
- Keep chemicals in original labelled containers where possible.
- Do not mix products.
- Transport containers upright.
- Cover and secure open vehicle or trailer loads.
- Call the receiving facility about an unusual item.
Depot-only material
- Paint, solvents and pesticides.
- Oil, fuel and automotive fluids.

Assisted Collection for Mobility or Medical Needs
Assisted collection may be available when a medical condition, disability or mobility limitation prevents household members from moving containers to the standard curb location.

Residents who only need help with the smaller boxes can ask Recycle BC about an accessible set-out arrangement.
