St. Thomas Garbage Collection Schedule 2026: Find Your Route and A/B Week
The official answer has two parts: your weekday/route letter and the current 2026 calendar. The route map is still linked by the City but is labelled effective January 1, 2011, so use it only to identify the route—not to decide a 2026 date or holiday change.
Locate the property on the official route map
Identify Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and whether the address is in A or B.
Open the 2026 curbside calendar
Match the route letter to the current date. Garbage is weekly; Green Cart and Blue Box alternate.
Check the holiday note
A holiday changes collection only when the City has scheduled and published an alternate date.
Set out the correct stream by 7 a.m.
A correct weekday is not enough if the wrong alternating stream is placed outside.
The 2025 calendar is an archive only. Do not copy its dates into 2026. Use the current City calendar for route alternation, holidays and recycling-provider information.
Holiday Collection Changes: How to Read the St. Thomas Garbage Calendar
St. Thomas does not promise a simple one-day-later rule for every holiday. The City says your regular day may move when an alternate collection has been scheduled, and that date appears on the current calendar.
Check the exact route box
Look at both the weekday and A/B stream. A neighbour on the other schedule can put out a different stream.
Follow the printed replacement date
Do not assume the whole week shifts. Use only the alternate date published for your route.
Recheck during weather or operations issues
Public notices can override a printed calendar when a collection disruption occurs.
No citywide search result can know your exact collection without the route letter. Check the route and current calendar before setting out Green Cart or Blue Box material.
St. Thomas Garbage Collection Rules: Limit, Weight, Tags and Rejection Triggers
Two items weekly
The strict limit is two eligible bags or reusable containers per week.
20 kg maximum
Each bag or container with contents must not exceed 20 kg (45 lb).
Within one metre
Place material within one metre (three feet) of the travelled road.
By 7 a.m.
Late set-out can look like a missed pickup even when the route was serviced.
Pickup-ready garbage
- Use a sound bag or a reusable container in good repair.
- A reusable container needs two side handles.
- Keep each item below the weight limit.
- Attach one visible tag to every item above the two-item limit.
- Keep material reachable and clear of parked vehicles or construction.
Not accepted as regular garbage
- Hazardous or biomedical waste
- Appliances, furniture, scrap metal or tires
- Construction debris, crates or pallets
- Vehicles or vehicle parts
- Combustible or explosive material
- Loose sharps, syringes or lancets
The City currently lists tags at $1.75 including tax. One tag is required for each extra eligible bag or container. A tag does not make furniture, appliances or construction debris eligible for curbside pickup.

St. Thomas Green Cart Schedule and Organics Rules
The City page uses both “Green Box” and “Green Cart.” They refer to the organics stream collected every other week on garbage day, opposite Blue Box recycling.
Only material inside the cart
Extra organics in bags or bundles beside the 64-gallon Compostainer are not collected.
100 lb maximum
Cart and contents cannot exceed 100 lb, and the lid must close completely.
No ordinary plastic bags
Material may be loose. Only compostable bags carrying the BPI logo are accepted.
Accepted food and soiled paper
- Fruit, vegetables, grains, dairy, meat and bones
- Coffee grounds, filters, tea bags and eggshells
- Pet waste and litter
- Soiled pizza boxes, paper trays, tissues and paper towel
Accepted yard material
- Leaves, flowers and yard waste
- Brush no longer than 40 cm (15 in.)
- Branch diameter no greater than 5 cm (2 in.)
- Material must fit with the lid closed
St. Thomas Recycling Schedule in 2026: Miller Waste, Sorting and Oops Stickers
From January 1, 2026, the City no longer manages Blue Box collection. Circular Materials oversees the programme and Miller Waste handles local recycling service questions, missed collections and container issues.

St. Thomas Garbage Dump Hours: Community Recycling Centre
“St. Thomas garbage dump” or “St. Thomas city dump” usually means the staffed Community Recycling Centre at 330 South Edgeware Road, St. Thomas, Ontario. It serves St. Thomas and participating residents of Southwold, Central Elgin, Aylmer and Malahide.
10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Current operating hours are listed as effective March 16, 2026.

Bring proof of residency
The facility lists a driver’s licence or work order for the property where the waste was generated as examples.
No cash
Visa, Mastercard and Debit are listed. Every vehicle must report to the scale attendant.
Separate free recycling, scrap metal and electronics from chargeable garbage, construction material, yard waste, refrigerant appliances and hazardous waste. Secure the load and keep children under 12 and pets in the vehicle.
St. Thomas City Dump Fees and Free Drop-Offs
A $30 minimum applies to loads containing chargeable material. Sort before arrival because the material category determines the fee.
The minimum applies once chargeable material is present. A dedicated free-recycling load can be free, but adding chargeable waste changes the transaction.
Household Hazardous Waste Hours and Safe Drop-Off
Household hazardous waste is accepted at the CRC on Wednesday from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. The dedicated CRC page is the current operational source.

- Aerosols, propane cylinders and fire extinguishers
- Fluorescent bulbs or tubes and smoke detectors
- Fertilizers, pesticides, paint and coatings
- Household and automotive batteries
- Motor oil, cleaners and disinfectants
- Pharmaceuticals and secured sharps
Prepare before arrival
- Use original or clearly marked containers.
- Securely cap and seal every container.
- Keep each liquid container at 20 L or less.
- Do not bring barrels or drums.
- Containers and contents are left at the depot.
- Sharps must be in a puncture-proof container.
Hazardous liquids can endanger collection crews and damage vehicles. Businesses must arrange their own hazardous-waste management.
Furniture, Appliances, Construction Waste, Batteries and Dead Wildlife
Couches, chairs and appliances
The City does not provide regular curbside large-item collection. Use the CRC and check the correct fee stream.
Free CRC battery drop-off
Accepted battery types include alkaline, lithium-ion, nickel-metal-hydride, nickel-cadmium, primary lithium, mercury and car batteries.
Double-bag for garbage
For small wild animals on private property, wear gloves, double-bag securely and place with garbage—not organics or recycling.
For larger animals such as coyotes or deer, bring the animal to the curb only if safe to do so and call Customer Service for pickup instructions.
Missed or Rejected St. Thomas Garbage, Green Cart or Recycling
Identify the stream first. Garbage and Green Cart concerns go to the City; Blue Box recycling concerns go to Miller Waste.
